The Folding-Models are a composition of several modular patches with an underlying System of connected Nodes (Particles, Springs).
The Springs as well as the Particles have different features depending on their role in the System. Particles for example have different sizes and collision-detection-IDs to prevent fold-flips.
The Particles and Springs are shaded by their force at the current simulation step. The range is from dark red/black (relaxed node) to bright yellow (stressed node).
A Skylight-Renderer is used for Ambient Occlusion and Shadows and diffuse shading. The Scene and the simulation remain still interactive for realtime editing.
